Listen – ‘What do you hear?’

What do you hear?

What do you hear?

Listen – What do you hear?
Wings that beat on the mountain air.
Eagles soaring in the sky.
Humming birds and insects
Buzzing busily by.

Listen – What do you hear?
Lazy hammocks softly swinging.
Charcoal hissing from dripping juice.
Urchins dancing a circle on grass.
Laughing at each other, and us.

Look – What do you see?
Mountains standing in the sky.
Blazing clouds drifting by.
Bananas under leaves like sails
Filling boxes and painted trucks.

Look – What do you see?
Walls that make a house.
Glass, to let us look outside.
A veranda sloping down
Giving shade from the hot sun.

Feel – What do you feel?
Freedom of Brasil!
Weight lifted from shoulders.
A smile spreading on your face
Bringing happiness past concerns.

Feel – What do you feel?
A longing to return.
The day too short to rest.
The night too beautiful to sleep.
The future too precious to waste.

Listen – What do you hear?
A voice softly calling in your ear.
Calling you home among the hills.
To live the rest of your days.
At the Chacara Escoses.

Listen – What do you hear?
A Jeep changing down gear.
Bringing boys back from town.
Happily bouncing up and down.
On the road from Itariri.
